Oakland County Uses Technology To Keep Citizens Current On Swine Flu

Pontiac, Michigan, May 1, 2009 -- Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson announced today that the county has added new functionality to its website to keep citizens up to date on the status of the H1N1 (Swine Flu) outbreak.

Citizens can now subscribe to receiving emails each time there is new information on the H1N1 Swine Flu in Michigan, Patterson said.  This is part of the new email/text messaging initiative I announced in my February State of the County address.

Anyone can now sign up with Oakland County to receive specific information on a wide range of topics in more than two dozen categories.  Instead of wading through 25,000 pages of web content to find what you are looking for, you can request information from a specific category like Swine Flu, which will be forwarded to you.  In addition, Health and Human Services Director George Miller has launched a podcast where he talks about the precautions people can take to protect themselves against Swine Flu.

The podcast, updates on the Swine Flu outbreak and the new subscription email service can be found at www.oakgov.com/health.
