2009/2010 Oakland County Directory

Dear Oakland County Resident,

It is my pleasure to present you with the 2009-2010 Oakland County Directory, a complete guide to services available through the Oakland County government.

You'll notice several changes this year. For the first time, we are printing a two-year edition of the directory for a cost-savings of more than $25,000. For the most updated information, visit Oakland County's web site at www.oakgov.com or your local city, township or village web site, conveniently listed in the directory.

With this edition, we are also celebrating Oakland County's institutions of higher learning. Pictured on our cover is the beautiful campus at Oakland University. Inside, you'll find information and the contact numbers you need the most, everything from airports to Animal Control, parks to planning, law enforcement, the Health Division and Veterans' Services. Here at the Clerk & Register of Deeds Office, we are continuing to enhance our web site, www.oakgov.com/clerkrod, as part of our "online, not in-line" philosophy. Our new Absentee Ballot Tracker allows you to track your ballot through the election process. Check in on Election Day to use our new Election Night Reporting system, offering graphics, precinct-level data and a new depth of understanding into election results. Other popular online services include our campaign disclosure records, Court Explorer to order Oakland County Circuit Court documents and finally our new property record search, which will enable users to view land records dating back more than 40 years, all from the comfort of their home or office.

Most importantly, we are continuing to fight for reform, transparency and government accountability. Changes must be made to protect families fighting foreclosure. State and federal officials must put a priority on safeguarding private information in public files. Toward that goal, I have directed our staff to remove Social Security numbers from every regular copy of court documents we issue.

We continue to strive to provide the best service at the lowest possible cost, especially in these tough economic times. We cut our 2008-2009 budget substantially -- saving $400,000 tax dollars by renegotiating contracts, cross-training employees and reducing staffing levels.

Our staff, dedicated and hard working, as always is ready and happy to assist you. If you have ideas or suggestions for improving our office, we'd love to hear from you. Please contact me personally at clerk@oakgov.com.

Sincerely,

Clerk & Register of Deeds
