David Schreiber
Oakland County Business Development Services 248-858-0792 schreiberd@oakgov.com Current Focus Mr. Schreiber is a key staff person involved in the development and implementation of new economic development strategic initiatives. He has been involved in the development and implementation of such successful Oakland County initiatives as Automation Alley, the Great Lakes Interchange SmartZone, the Automation Alley Technology Accelerator and the Oakland County Emerging Sector program. Mr. Schreiber is currently working to develop new programs and services to support commercialization of emerging technologies and entrepreneurial activity in Oakland County. Professional Background Mr. Schreiber has more than twenty three years of professional economic development experience. Twenty of those years have been with Oakland County. Mr. Schreiber was Vice-Chairman of the Michigan Global Partnership - Asia Division for over eight years. This volunteer group coordinates business attraction marketing activities for its partners throughout Michigan. Among this group's activity is a yearly trade mission to Asia. Mr. Schreiber participated on these trade missions for over 8 years. Mr. Schreiber was part of the taskforce that developed Oakland County's newest business attraction program, the Emerging Sector Initiative. This program has identified ten key emerging business sectors and is focused on attracting and retaining top companies in those sectors for Oakland County. He is a member of the team that assisted with the development of the Automation Alley Consortium. Mr. Schreiber remains active with the Consortium. He is currently a member of the Automation Alley Workforce Development Committee. This committee is responsible for forging stronger ties between the business and educational communities. Mr. Schreiber is a long time member of the Michigan Economic Developers Association. He is a past-chairman of the Michigan Economic Developers Association Education Committee. He received the President's Award for Outstanding Contributions to MEDA in 1994 and 2003 and the Mike Conboy Award in 1992 and 2005. He is currently a member of the board of directors. Mr. Schreiber is a member of the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). He is a graduate of the IEDC Economic Development Institute and a winner of the Howard Roepke Award for Best Thesis. In 2002 Mr. Schreiber was recognized by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation as Economic Developer of the Year.
Education Mr. Schreiber has a Master of Urban Planning degree with a concentration in economic development from the University of Michigan. His undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of General Studies from the University of Michigan. Mr. Schreiber is also a graduate of the first class of the Oakland County Leadership Academy. This academy was established to provide leadership training for potential future managers within Oakland County government.
