A More Open Government


Governments across the U.S. are making strides to move information online, yet are still ill-prepared to deal with the organizational challenges and complexities of eGovernment operations.

Making government more responsive and efficient is clearly a daunting task, even for the most well resourced and tech-savvy municipalities. Nevertheless, the Internet offers the potential to fundamentally transform how governments interact with citizens, businesses and the community at large.

One sign of changes to come is the increasing use of the Internet for opening government up to the democratic process. Already, local officials accept and respond to e-mail communications, in addition to the traditional phone call, whenever citizens have a concern or a complaint.
