2010 CENSUS NEW CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM Attention Oakland County Community Representatives: The U.S. Census Bureau has provided local government with an opportunity to collaborate on improved address accuracy in support of the 2010 Census. The highest elected official (HEO) of your community has recently received information from the U.S. Census Bureau regarding the 2010 Census New Construction Program. This program is designed to include addresses for new construction that took place after the Census Bureau’s canvassing effort which concluded in March, 2009. Oakland County has identified the criteria for qualifying new construction and can access this information for those communities that have contracted the County to perform its assessing functions. If your community performs its own assessing functions your local assessor will have access to this information. In either case, you may collaborate with Oakland County to report new construction information to the U.S. Census Bureau for inclusion in the 2010 Census.

Oakland County will identify qualifying new construction using open building permits for residential properties issued in January, 2009 or later. These construction sites will be field checked to determine if roofing and installation of doors and windows is expected to be complete by April 1, 2010. If you, as a contracted community, would like Oakland County to perform this analysis and report the results of qualifying new construction to the U.S. Census Bureau on behalf of your community, please complete the form found at the link below.

How to participate in Oakland Countys 2010 Census New Construction Program
Complete the form found at the link below and return it to the attention of Anita Campbell at (campbella@oakgov.com), fax (248.452.9128) or USPS (Oakland County Information Technology, 1200 N Telegraph Rd, Bldg 49W, Pontiac, MI 48341-0421). The form must be submitted by November 2, 2009. Please do not delay in considering participation in this program as the U.S. Census Bureau has indicated that there will be a due date for submission of new construction information. Oakland County has registered and will receive a packet from the U.S. Census Bureau between November 8, 2009 and January 22, 2010. The submission of new construction addresses is due 45 days after receipt of the packet.
