School Health Services


The Public Health Nurses at the Oakland County Health Division advocate for a coordinated and comprehensive school health program to promote health and enhance student learning.

The Public Health Nurse is available as a consultant to the school team for:

  • Communicable Disease -  follow up for major communicable disease; guidelines for communicable disease  management; resources for families and school staff.
  • Immunization - Educate and refer families for immunization services; support use of MCIR/SIRS program.
  • Emergency/First Aid/Medications - Offer resources for policy development and training.
  • Chronic Disease - Provide health consultation and identify resources.  Participate in Individual Educational Planning Committees and 504 planning meetings for children with special needs.
  • Health Promotion - Participate on health advisory committees as needed. Provide health information to the school community; identify health and wellness speakers and resources.
  • Safety - Provide resources for staff updates about Universal Precautions, school safety concerns; and assist with emergency preparedness planning.
