Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Supplemental Food Program


WIC is a free nutrition program that helps families eat well and stay healthy.

WIC provides:

  • Free healthy foods
  • Nutrition counseling and education
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Referrals to health care, immunizations, and many other helpful services

Eligibility Guidelines:

  • Pregnant women
  • Infants
  • Children under age 5
  • Women who recently had a baby (up to 6 months after delivery)
  • Breastfeeding women (up to 1 year after delivery)

Do I Qualify?

  • Low to middle income or receive Medicaid and/or food stamps
  • State of Michigan and Oakland County resident
  • Nutrition and/or health risk (determined by WIC staff)

How Do I Apply?

  • Call 248-858-1272 or toll-free at 888-350-0900 ext. 81272 to determine eligibility and make an appointment.

Please plan approximately 2 hours for your visit. Bring a favorite toy or books to help make the appointment easier for both you and your child.





Medical Providers:

Beginning August 1, 2009, a physician’s prescription for special formula will no longer be accepted for WIC clients. 

New Medical Documentation forms must be completed by a physician for infants to receive special WIC formula; for women and children 1 year and older to receive formula; or for customization of WIC foods for women and children with special dietary needs.

Medical Documentation Forms

These WIC formulas do not require Medical Documentation for infants less than 12 months of age:

  • Enfamil LIPIL with Iron
  • Prosobee LIPIL with Iron
  • Gentlease LIPIL
  • Enfamil AR LIPIL
