Journeys Event - The Journeys of Black Professionals in Green Careers

For Everyone

Join us to inspire young Black Americans to pursue forest and conservation careers. Hear the stories of Black Americans who have taken this career path and who have advice and resources to share. This workshop is based on the recent publication: Black Faces in Green Spaces: The Journeys of Black Professionals in Green Careers. The Journeys guide was created in partnership with Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS), The Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI), and Project Learning Tree. Planning partners include representatives from: Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan State University, Greening of Detroit, Michigan Alliance for Environmental and Outdoor Education, Michigan Detroit Zoological Society, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, and the USDA Forest Service.

General Public: 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Hear from local people working in Green Careers. Be inspired by their journey. Our panel will feature people from a wide variety of Green jobs. Ages 13+ Cost is $5 (includes OAC entry).

Educators: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Attend the morning Green job panel then stay for lunch and an engaging workshop to get the tools and resources to connect students to Green Jobs. Formal/nonformal educators welcome. Includes guides, 4 SCECHs, lunch and OAC entry. Cost $20 (value $45)
