Historically, appointed attorneys have been required to file motions if they wanted the assistance of an investigator or an expert witness. MIDC Standard 5 changes this practice. It is now the IDSO's responsibility to review any requests for an expert witness or an investigator.

Please use the following forms if you have been appointed by the IDSO on a case and you are seeking the assistance of an expert or investigator. If you have been appointed on a felony by the IDSO and the case has not been bound over - please still use these forms. Do not file your request with the District Court.

Requests will be reviewed by the IDSO in a timely manner, and if your request is denied you will have the ability to appeal that denial to the Criminal Assignment Committee.

Please email your completed request form(s) to mennap@oakgov.com and idso@oakgov.com.

Below is a courtesy list of investigators who have worked on Oakland County cases or expressed interest in doing so. You are not required to use an investigator listed here, this is only provided as a courtesy for attorneys who are seeking recommendations. Regardless of whether you use an investigator on this list, you must still submit a request for appointment and receive pre-approval.

Any expert or investigator who performs work authorized by the IDSO must submit a detailed invoice to the Chief Attorney within 30 days of the last date of service. These should be submitted via email to idso@oakgov.com and mennap@oakgov.com.

Experts and Investigators must also register as vendors with Oakland County Fiscal Services. The vendor registration packet is available here and should be returned to vendors@oakgov.com

The Chief Judge of the Oakland County Circuit Court has issued a standing order allowing any expert or investigator appointed by the IDSO to access the Oakland County Jail. The expert or investigator must bring a copy of the order, and a copy of the approved request signed by the IDSO. Please note that this order does not permit an expert or investigator to bring any electronic devices or equipment into the jail. You must obtain a separate court order from the assigned Judge for this.
