Traditional 12-Step group meetings provided by volunteers from the community who are in a successful stage of recovery.

Psychiatric Pre-Assessment and Referral

If an inmate indicates a history of having received psychiatric services or is identified as needing psychiatric services, a caseworker meets with the inmate to perform a pre-assessment and makes the referral to a psychiatrist within the jail.

Crisis Intervention

If an inmate indicates a problem or is displaying anxiety involving adjustment to the jail environment, a caseworker will meet with the inmate to assist in identifying the source of the anxiety and explore solutions to alleviating the anxiety.

Suicide Identification and Prevention

If an inmate indicates feeling suicidal or is displaying signs of being suicidal, caseworkers intervene to reduce the risk of self-injury.

Access to preparatory classes and educational information to assist inmates seeking to obtain their GED or high school diploma.

Oakland Livingston Human Services Agencies (OLHSA)

Provides programs to assist the children of inmates under the age of 18 by providing parenting sessions and access to community services to break the cycle of trans-generational criminality.

HAVEN

Provides support groups for female inmates who are victims of domestic violence or in an abusive relationship.

Psychiatric services are contracted through Easter Seals.

Evaluation and Medication

Psychiatrists perform an evaluation of inmate's mental status and prescribe medication, if appropriate, for the treatment of mental illness. Prescriptions are filled through the Jail Clinic with a $5 processing fee per prescription.

Two Jail Chaplains oversee the religious programs, which are supported by over 300 volunteers and include, but are not limited to, weekly church services, worship and educational groups, individual pastoral counseling, and crisis response services to families.

Programs offered at the Oakland County jail promote inmate accountability. Successful completion of a program is rewarded with a reduced sentence, thereby serving the dual purpose of managing chronic jail overcrowding and decreasing repeat incarceration (recidivism).

A 6-week group for felony-sentenced males and females that teaches inmates the fundamentals of "Thinking Matters," a cognitive restructuring approach to eliminate criminal thinking. New members can enter the group on a weekly basis. Upon successful completion the inmates receive up to a 25% reduction in their sentences. In order to participate, male inmates need to be eligible for housing at the East Annex or the Jail Annex.

A jail diversion program for inmates having mental health needs. The inmates engage in a treatment readiness curriculum with the goal of setting up an aftercare treatment program within their respective communities. Upon completion, a jail diversion is sought from the inmate's Judge.

A 4-week "closed-end" group for inmates serving sentences for misdemeanor convictions. The program teaches inmates to use a cognitive restructuring approach to eliminate criminal thinking. Upon successful completion, inmates receive up to a 25% reduction in their sentences. For male inmates to participate they must be eligible for housing at the East Annex.

MCLA 28.1747 states that courts may grant day parole to jail inmates for several purposes, including employment. The Sheriff's Office administers and monitors the Work Release Program through an electronic GPS tether, which allows offenders to return to their homes each night, rather than the jail. Through this program, offenders can maintain their employment status while providing accountability as to their whereabouts.

Eligibility

• Misdemeanor and felony offenders are eligible except as noted below.
• Offenders must have verifiable employment and means of transportation.
• Work Release Status must be ordered by the court.

The following are not eligible for Work Release:

• Offenders with a felony detainer
• Offenders with warrants/holds from other jurisdictions
• Offenders serving sentences for Criminal Sexual Conduct (1st/2nd/3rd/4th degrees); Failure to Register as a Sex Offender (current charge); Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Penetration; Stalking; Escape/Attempt to Escape; Child Sexual Abuse/Distribution of Obscene Materials to Children
• Any other charge(s) deemed inappropriate for the program

Guidelines for the Work Release Tether Program

• Individuals must be sentenced by the Court to participate.
• A letter of employment must be provided to WRTP staff before being released into the program. It must be printed on company letterhead, showing the Company name, address (no PO boxes) and phone number. The body of the letter must include the participant's full name, brief job description, wage, actual work days (including start/end times) and the name/title of the person responsible for the participant's employment.
• A work inclusion zone will be established in regards to the job site, and will be monitored to ensure that the worker is arriving and departing from work in accordance with the schedule that has been established.

Costs/Fees for the WRTP Program

• $220.00, which includes a $75.00 enrollment fee and $145.00 for the first 10 days, followed by a daily fee of $14.50
• Soberlink Tether: $280.00, which includes a $75.00 enrollment fee and $205.00 for the first 10 days, followed by a daily fee of $20.50
• Transdermal Alcohol Tether: $325.00, which includes a $75.00 enrollment fee and $250.00 for the first 10 days, followed by a daily fee of $25.00

Once the Program Services staff has received the employment letter and initial fees, they can begin the process of securing the tether and releasing the inmate into the WRTP.

Additional Information

Participants in the WRTP must strictly follow all restrictions regarding their time and location, and shall not engage in any illegal activity during this period.

All individuals sentenced to the WRTP shall not use or possess illegal drugs or consume alcohol while in the program. Monitoring will be conducted by the Sheriff's RESULTS Program (testing sites in Pontiac and Troy) at the participant's own expense. If an alcohol-monitoring device is used, the participant must comply with the rules provided by the monitoring service agency.

Any failure to test, or a positive urinalysis/breathalyzer test, will result in termination from the WRTP and a return to the Oakland County Jail to serve the remainder of the sentence.
