Assistant to the City Manager
City of Troy, Michigan

As the Assistant to the City Manager for the City of Troy, Benson helped with the day-to-day operations and long-term strategic planning for the largest community in Oakland County with a population of 85,000. Previously, he served as the Assistant Village Manager for the Village of Oxford in northern Oakland County, with a population of 3,500.

Benson earned his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University, and earned a Master's degree in Public Administration from Oakland University with a focus on Local Government Management. He also is a bit of a self-proclaimed "training nerd" and looks for every opportunity to learn more. He completed the Citizen Planner program through Michigan State University and has worked through the Back to Basics financial management training through the Michigan Governmental Finance Officers Association.

Benson also enjoys giving back to the community, through his work with the Oakland County Boat Club's Finance Committee, and the Michigan Municipal Executives Next-Generation Committee.

He lives in Waterford and spends a lot of his free time renovating his home, traveling to new places and spending time with his family and friends.
