Established in 2013 through a Community Economic Development Association of Michigan grant (CEDAM), the Financial Empowerment Center partners with Huntington Bank, JVS Detroit, and other partners to assist Oakland County residents and business owners.

Financial and Housing Counseling

The Financial Empowerment Center offers free and confidential financial counseling services to Oakland County residents experiencing financial difficulties. Financial assessments, including budgeting, debt and credit counseling, mortgage foreclosure and delinquent tax assistance, are available to help Oakland County residents and families achieve their financial goals, such as saving for college, a house or retirement.

Business Loans

Oakland County small business owners can obtain information on available federal and state business loans, including:

• Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM) 
• Small Business Administration (SBA) Small Business Loans (BFC)

Housing Mortgage Relief

The Financial Empowerment Center also offers guidance and assistance to Oakland County residential property owners with delinquent mortgage payments and property taxes, including negotiating with mortgage lenders and providing housing and other resources.
