According to the 2023 Midwest Clean Jobs Report, Michigan is ranked second highest in hybrid and electric vehicle employment. With countless car manufacturers making strides towards hybrid and Electric Vehicles (EVs), Oakland County Michigan Works! and Oakland Community College are
ensuring that our residents are trained to fill open positions and meet demands. Take the first step towards launching a career in EV and mobility by attending an information session to learn how we can help cover tuition costs for qualified candidates.

- SME Electric Vehicle Fundamentals (EVF)
- Six OCC Credits (must pass exam): IST 1000 Industrial Math and IST 1100 Industrial Print Reading

New! Transportation Career Pathways Program
(TCPP)
Embark on a transformative career journey with the MDOT Transportation Career Pathways Program (TCPP). Tailored for individuals seeking hands-on experience, our immersive program offers opportunities in various tracks such as transportation maintenance, skilled trades, technician, and others.* Go the extra mile with MDOT as you explore opportunities, connect with industry professionals at career fairs, and gain valuable insights through job shadowing experiences.*
Eligibility: Open to individuals 18 years and older with a valid driver’s license
Full-Time Immersive Experience: Immerse yourself in an opportunity of up to 40 hours per week, gaining comprehensive experience within the MDOT TCPP.
Program Timeframe: May - September. However, you can start later if you are just getting out of school.

New! Certified Nurse Aide/ Patient Care Technician
Looking for a challenging and rewarding career in the nation’s growing healthcare industry? Take advantage of this unique opportunity to prepare for certification as both a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) and Patient Care Technician (PCT), both in-demand career paths.
Oakland County Michigan Works!, in partnership with Oakland Community College, Ascension Southfield, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland and Moceri Senior Living, is pleased to offer this new, innovative advanced training program to eligible residents.
- 130 hours of classroom, lab and clinical training
- Classroom instruction at OCC’s Southfield campus
- Clinical training at Ascension Southfield, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland or Moceri Senior Living
- Upon completion of the program, students earn an OCC Completion Certificate, BLS Red Cross Certificate and qualify for the Certified Nurse Aide and Patient Care
- Technician board exams of their choosing
CNA/PCT RESPONSIBILITIES
- Vital signs

- Catheter care and removal
- Sample collection
- Wound care
- Bathing, feeding and toileting

Sterile Processing Technician
With an increased focus on patient safety in healthcare, sterile processing technicians are in high demand. As one of these technicians, you’ll decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package and sterilize reusable surgical instruments or devices in a healthcare facility, so that they can be redistributed and reused safely on additional patients. This work is usually centralized in a special department of the medical facility.
- Average entry-level wage range: $15 – $20 per hour
