Work Registration
A Requirement for Receiving Unemployment Insurance Benefits
The State of Michigan requires all people receiving unemployment insurance benefits to be actively seeking full-time work. The first step in qualifying for benefits is to register for work through a Michigan Works! agency within ten days of filing an unemployment claim.
Oakland County residents can do this either in-person or virtually at one of our six service centers. If you would like to register in-person, no appointment is necessary. Oakland County Michigan Works! offices accept work registrations Monday through Friday from 8am to 4:30pm. For location information, click on one of the centers listed below.
If you would like to register virtually, an appointment is required. Virtual registrations require a webcam as visual identification is required. To schedule your virtual appointment, please call one of our six Oakland County Michigan Works! offices listed below.
Work Registration Steps
Visit MiTalent.org to create a profile
- Upload your resume (required)
- Meet with staff from a Michigan Works! Service Center, either in-person or virtually
- Create Profile
In-Person Registration
- Offered Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 3:30 pm
- Bring your Driver’s License, Passport, or State ID for proof of identity
Virtual Registration
- Visual identification is required – must have a webcam
- Required documentation:
- Registration Form
- Copy of resume from Pure Michigan Talent Connect
Staff will review submissions and provide a Zoom link to participate in a virtual registration session — you must attend this meeting to satisfy all requirements.
