Oakland NEXT: Truck Driver
Earn your CDL license truck drivers move America! - Free training*
According to American Trucking Associations (ATA), nearly 75 percent of all freight in our country is moved by truck drivers. Job opportunities in this field continue to increase, with two percent projected job growth annually through 2029, generating an additional 30,600 jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Truck drivers earn from $14.21 - $30.83 per hour, depending on company and experience.
Oakland County Michigan Works!, in partnership with several truck driving schools across the tri-county area, offers short-term training opportunities with tuition assistance available to eligible candidates.
Training: Various Training providers are available in Oakland County. Candidates are able to select a school that is closest to their home and best suited for their needs.

Additional Certificate Programs
Complete a free certificate training program right from home.
Qualified participants receive free tuition, with the opportunity to earn a certification. A free laptop computer is provided to each program participant, as well. In addition to obtaining a certification, participants can access financial management and career readiness courses online.
There are financial incentives for youth that complete all requirements. Job search assistance after completion of the program also is available.
