The Health Division's HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Program provides confidential, anonymous counseling and testing, referral services, and education. Rapid HIV testing is available.

Free Rapid HIV Self-Testing

An HIV self-test (or rapid self-test) is an antibody test that can be used at home or in a private location. Results are ready within 20 minutes.

Oraquick HIV self-test can detect HIV at 3 months or later from time of infection, and has been shown to be 99% accurate, when used correctly.

If you test positive on the Oraquick HIV self-test, you will need further testing for confirmation. Oakland County provides follow-up HIV testing at no cost.

The Health Division can help connect you to care no matter your insurance status or if you live out-of-county.

HIV Link-Up Oakland Program

Link-Up Oakland is a free, confidential service to help people who are living with HIV access medical care and support services. Regular medical visits can:

  • Keep you healthy
  • Make it less likely you will pass HIV to your partners
  • Lead to improved viral suppression
  • Decrease the odds of drug resistance

HIV Prevention Medication

Oakland County Health Division offers PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) and PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) services in both the Pontiac and Southfield locations, at little to no cost to clients.

For more information about these programs, call or text our PrEP Navigator at 248-459-5891, or email HIVservices@oakgov.com.
