About

Hepatitis C is a liver infection spread through contact with blood through an infected person. Today, most people become infected by sharing needles or other equipment used to prepare and inject drugs.

Most people who are infected with hepatitis C have no symptoms for years, but symptoms may include:

  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes)
  • Dark-colored urine
  • Pale bowel movements

Treatments can cure most people with hepatitis C in 8 to 12 weeks.

Eligibility

Anyone over the age of 12 is eligible for testing and treatment.

The CDC recommends universal screening for all U.S. adults and all pregnant women. Routine periodic testing is recommended for people with ongoing risk factors.
