Oakland County Health Division Programs

Oakland County Food Policy Council

The Oakland County Food Policy Council envisions a fair, sustainable, and culturally friendly food system that encourages healthy eating for all. The Council’s mission is to lead and advance food policy and system changes that will increase equitable and healthy access for all. Prescription for A Healthy Oakland

Prescription for a Healthy Oakland is a partnership between referring healthcare providers, participating vendors (grocery stores or farm markets), and the Oakland County Health Division. Eligible Oakland County residents receive a produce prescription from their healthcare provider to purchase fruits and vegetables, and nutrition education and support from a health educator. Program eligibility: must be 18 years and older and be eligible for or be enrolled in SNAP/EBT and/or Medicaid. Senior Market FRESH (Farm Resources Expanding and Supporting Health)

The Senior Market FRESH program aims to help older adults eat healthier. Senior Market FRESH gives coupon vouchers to eligible older adults to purchase Michigan grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey from farmers markets and farm stands. The program runs from May 1 to October 31 each year. Coupon vouchers are only available as supplies last.

To qualify, you must:

  • Be at least 60 years old.
  • Live in the county participating in the program.
  • Have a total household income no greater than 185% of federal poverty level.

SNAP Education Programs:

SNAP-Ed focuses on improving the health of residents by providing education on fitting healthy eating and physical activity into daily life. Eligible Oakland County residents can participate in evidence-based programming that helps them gain knowledge and access to resources to support leading healthy, active lives. Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

WIC provides supplemental healthy foods, nutrition counseling and education, breastfeeding education and support, immunizations, and referrals to other helpful services for those who qualify.
