Healthy Communities Park and Outdoor Recreation Investment Plan Information
Oakland County Parks supports local recreation programs, trail/park improvement projects and invasive species strategies throughout Oakland County. We work together with local communities to protect natural habitats and bring quality recreation activities to all residents.
OCP provides this support in numerous ways. A millage request approved by voters in November 2020 provides funds for county-wide invasive species projects that benefit entire communities as well as grants to fund non-motorized trail and park improvement projects. Cities, villages and townships are encouraged to apply for these grants.
In October 2022, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners approved $15 million for Oakland County Parks from pandemic relief funds the county received as part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Combined with a $5.2 million match from Oakland County Parks, this provided the parks system with substantial funds to revitalize and enhance parks located in or servicing residents of communities most impacted by the pandemic, leading to creation of the Healthy Communities Park and Outdoor Recreation Investment Plan.
In addition, the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission has funded the Recreation Assistance Partnership Program (RAPP) since 1982. RAPP provides community grants for recreation opportunities and experiences, including outreach programs and nature education. Our inflatable bouncers, climbing tower and games can be enjoyed at many area parks and community festivals that OCP collaborates with to host. Applications open to community leaders each year in early January.
