Livable Neighborhoods
Oakland County’s population is projected to grow 9% from 2020 to 2050 (SEMCOG). As population continues to grow, so will congestion without high-quality transit options to mitigate it. A typical 40-foot transit bus can take up to two city blocks worth of traffic off the road (RTA).
In addition, Oakland County residents currently spend about 23% of their incomes on transportation (H&T Index). Households that can rely solely on public transit or that can reduce the number of vehicles in their household are able to invest this portion of their incomes in other sectors of the economy.
