Home Improvement Program

Oakland County offers interest-free loans for home repairs, including barrier-free access and energy saving upgrades. To qualify, you must live in Oakland County and meet maximum household income requirements. For more information call (248) 858-5401.

Qualifications for the Home Improvement:

  • Income based on HUD guidelines.
  • Own your home.
  • Mortgage and home equity loans must be current.
  • Must have enough equity in the property—State Equalized Value (SEV) x 2.5 minus any liens on property.
  • Any bankruptcy must be discharged.

  • Reverse Mortgage counseling for people 62 years and older.
  • Providing resources on subsidized housing lists for seniors who qualify.

WRC’s Hardship Assistance Program

The Hardship Assistance Program, a collaboration of Oakland County Water Resources and United Way of Southeast Michigan, provides financial aid to Oakland County households struggling to pay for water and sewer services. Designed for those who don’t qualify for existing water assistance initiatives, the program helps with unpaid bills and plumbing repairs, preventing potential service cutoffs, housing crises, and related hardships. The Hardship Assistance Program is accepting applications soon, and anyone can donate to help their neighbor.

GLWA’s Water Residential Assistance Program

GLWA Water Residential Assistance ProgramThe Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) offers the Water Residential Assistance Program (WRAP) to help eligible households manage their water and sewer bills. WRAP provides income-based assistance to households receiving water and/or sewer service from GLWA through partner communities. Eligible households can receive help with past-due balances and assistance for up to two years. Seniors are eligible for bill credit assistance without expiration.
