Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center, under the leadership of County Executive David Coulter, offers housing and medical care to more than 4,000 animals on an annual basis. It has the best save rate in Michigan among public open-admission shelters whose intakes match our numbers. (View our current animal shelter statistics).

OCAS/PAC also is the public agency charged with enforcement of Michigan’s Dog Law of 1919. It is responsible for complete animal control services in 47 Oakland County communities.

The Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center strives to improve the center's save and adoption rates. We work toward accomplishing this goal by:

  • Educating the citizens of Oakland County about responsible pet ownership.
  • Partnering with local 501(c)(3) rescues to help place more animals into loving homes.
  • Participating in 9 Pet Adoption Outreach Centers. These offsite outreach centers help to boost adoptions with the creation of satellite outreach centers. These centers will feature cats taken from the shelter and available for adoption at the satellite location.
  • The shelter regularly participates in off/onsite adoption events, check out our events page to find out what's coming up!
  • Creation of volunteer roles to help keep our animals social, exercised and happy! We are always in need of volunteers.
