About April Lynch
April Lynch serves as an Oakland County Deputy Executive. She oversees the departments of Human Resources, Environmental Sustainability, and Facilities Management. Prior to her appointment, Lynch served as associate vice president of human resources and payroll at the University of Detroit Mercy.
Lynch served as Ferndale's city manager beginning in 2011. At the city, she worked with Dave Coulter to resolve long-standing issues and bring many innovations to city government. Under their leadership, Ferndale adopted a three-year budget and a five-year forecast. Their stewardship resulted in lower city taxes, fewer industrial vacancies and a 3-step improvement in Ferndale's bond rating from A+ to AA-. The City revised its Master Plan and created a Strategic Plan to focus on affordable housing, an overhaul of the parks systems and a formal plan for its thriving downtown.
Lynch served as director of administrative services/assistant city manager for the city of Ypsilanti from 2007-2011. She also worked for the city of Monroe as the director of human resources from 2005-2007. Finally, she was the assistant to the city manager/director of human resources for the city of Grand Haven from 1996-2005. Lynch was an adjunct professor at Oakland University from 2015 to 2019 where she taught graduate-level introduction to public administration.
Lynch is a certified senior professional in human resources. She holds an MBA in human resources from Baker College in Muskegon and a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Grand Valley State University. Lynch and her family live in Commerce Township.
