Civil infraction traffic tickets are processed by the Traffic Division of the District Court. Respondents may do the following.

The respondent may request an Informal Hearing with the magistrate, where no attorneys are allowed, or a Formal Hearing before a judge, in which a prosecutor will represent the state, city or township, and the respondent may be represented by an attorney.

Upon admitting responsibility or being found responsible, the violation is reported to the Secretary of State, which then posts the offense to the respondent's driving record and assesses points.

Traffic Division Adjournment Procedures

Informal Hearings Requests for adjournments are discouraged; however, will be considered for good cause.

All adjournment requests must be made at least seven days before the scheduled court date. No adjournments will be granted less than seven days before the scheduled hearing date absent verifiable emergency circumstances. (Please note that job related conflicts are not grounds for adjournment.)

If you would like to ask for an adjournment of an informal hearing, please contact the Traffic Division. Please refer to judicial bios for protocols specific to each Judge.
