Effective 12-5-2023, All parties are required to e-file all Civil/Landlord Tenant matters according to the MiFILE procedure. Use of the Public 52-4 MiFILE kiosk is available from 8:30am to 4:25pm all days the Court is open. 

The Civil Division of the 52-4 District Court provides a court to be used by people to settle monetary disputes of $25,000 or less, or to acquire some type of fair settlement.

You do not need to know anything about the law to bring a suit in the court.

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 600.8321(1), MCR 2.103(B), and MCR 3.106, the following named individual(s) is appointed in the 52nd District Court - 4th Division for the purpose of serving civil processes, which includes directing the seizure of personal and/or real property, and/or executing evictions:

Steps for Filing a Civil Suit

  • Be sure that you have brought your claim against the proper party and know the party's correct address
  • Be sure that you are starting your case in the correct District Court (venue)
  • File case according to MiFILE procedure (see MIFILE/eFiling Information section)
  • Pay a filing fee (the filing fee can be paid by MasterCard, American Express or Discover on MiFile). 
  • Decide how you would like the defendant served (sheriff, deputy sheriff, bailiff, appointed court officer, attorney for a party, legally competent adult who is not a party or an officer of a corporate party or by certified mail, return receipt requested).
