Support Services
The Support Services Division provides a wide variety of internal support services to county departments. The division is comprised of both governmental and internal service funds. The governmental fund portion includes the division Administration, Record Retention, and Mail center units. Also included with the governmental fund portion is the disposal of surplus county equipment via auctions, County auction, the operation of public cafeteria in Oakland County Courthouse, and vending services in county buildings.
The internal service fund portion of Support Services consists of Vehicle Operations. Vehicle Operations operates under a separate working capital program. The fund prepares a five-year capital plan for vehicle replacement. The operation prepares vehicle bid specifications for the Oakland County cooperative purchasing program. County vehicles are purchased, disposed, and maintained by this operation. Additionally, vehicles are maintained in an in-house central garage facility.
Goals
- To operate and maintain the county vehicle fleet in a cost-effective manner to meet the needs of the Oakland County workforce.
- To maintain safe, same day U.S. mail service for outgoing and incoming mail at the lowest possible postage rate.
- Market Vehicle Operations and mailing services to cities, villages, and townships in Oakland County.
- To store and retrieve records in an efficient manner utilizing the least amount of storage space.
- Continually research methods to maximize the sale value of surplus county equipment.
Auction
Our support Services Auction team has a proven track record of bringing top dollar proceeds back to the departments by auctioning off County surplus, vehicles, heavy equipment, furniture, and Sheriff’s Office confiscated and forfeited items. Vehicle Operations
Repairs and maintains over 900 County owned vehicles along with having several inner local agreements with surrounding CVT’s. Vehicle Operations is diversifying into green alternative energy vehicle while always maintaining the newest fuel-efficient vehicles for its fleet operations.
Mail Center
We are committed to moving mail and packages safely, quickly, and efficiently on the campus. As mailing and shipping experts, we strive to inform the county departments of best practices for sending mail and packages to minimize postage and shipping costs. Record Retention
The mission of the Records Department is to develop, manage and safeguard Countywide official records and informational assets, both paper and electronic, by guiding the management, retention, access, storage, and disposition of those assets. Oakland County Records is designed to comply with the State of Michigan records management laws providing consultative and operational assistance to all departments concerning records management, retention, disposition, and secure information management practices.
