Our mission is to enhance employee effectiveness by identifying and improving organizational and individual competencies. We partner with departments to fully understand their performance needs and offer our training and assessment solutions to facilitate the achievement of County objectives.

Our Objectives

  1. Enhance employee effectiveness across the County as measured by improved performance, heightened morale and reduced cost.
  2. Using the established competency models, analyze data about departmental training and assessment needs into a strategy designed to minimize or eliminate critical performance gaps across the County.
  3. Develop and implement training and assessment programs that constitute the best fit with overall County needs.

Employee Development

Employee development is a critical part of achieving Oakland County's mission, vision, and strategic goals. Our goal is to develop and retain Oakland County's most treasured asset – people, to enhance performance and foster an environment of excellence in public service. Whether entry-level or management, we believe learning is important for employees at all levels of the organization. The HR Employee Training & Development unit offers a variety of training programs to meet the needs of Oakland County employees across all departments at no cost other than the time invested.

We pride ourselves on the wide variety of learning and development opportunities we offer to all Oakland County employees, including the Tuition Reimbursement Program, In-Service Training, Computer-Based Training and traditional Instructor-Led Training.
