Karen D. McDonald - Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, Oakland County Michigan

Oakland County Prosecuting Attorney Karen D. McDonald is the chief law enforcement officer in Oakland County, the second-largest county in the State of Michigan. The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office (OCPO) is committed to prosecuting crime, keeping our communities safe, and seeking justice for victims.

The Prosecuting Attorney represents the People of the State of Michigan in the Oakland County Circuit Court, as well as the fourteen district courts within the county. OCPO also represents the People of the State of Michigan before the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Michigan Supreme Court.

Each year, OCPO reviews thousands of law enforcement investigations, and determines whether criminal charges are appropriate. The cases handled by OCPO include felony and misdemeanor criminal matters, juvenile delinquency matters, child abuse and neglect matters and child-support cases. OCPO prosecutes cases from their inception through trial, and on appeal.

Although the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office works with local police agencies, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police, OCPO is not an investigative agency. To initiate a criminal investigation, contact the local law enforcement agency in the jurisdiction you believe a crime has occurred, or the Michigan State Police. Information about the various divisions in the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office can be found on our Divisions & Units page.
