Industry standards for animal shelters/rescues call for shelters to only accept the number of animals that they can care for with the staff and supplies they have available. Animal shelters/rescues receive strays and abused animals every day that need their help immediately. Therefore, limiting owned animals that need re-homing is one way to control the shelter population. In an effort to help the public when faced with re-homing their pet; the Shelter can provide resources to aid pet owners to keep their beloved pet or avenues to reach potential adopters.
Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center is starting a new program whereas if you are in need of re-homing your pet, we ask that you download this form Re-Homing Program Questionnaire, complete it and email it along with a picture of your pet to cravesa@oakgov.com. We will then add your name to our re-homing list and feature your pet on our Petfinder.com account.
The Shelter will then contact you when the there is room in the shelter to accept your pet. If your pet has not found a new forever home through the Petfinder.com feature; the Shelter will instruct you on how to bring your animal to us.
If you do not have access to email, you can download the form, fill it out and mail that along with a picture of your pet to Oakland County Animal Shelter, 1200 N Telegraph Rd, Bldg 42E, Pontiac, MI 48341.
You may contact the Shelter at (248) 858-1070, should you have any questions regarding this program.
