The Sixth Judicial Circuit Court uses an individual docket system - which means a case assigned to a particular judge stays with that judge until it is over. There are instances - such as disqualification, consolidation, previous case - when the reassignment of a judge may occur.
As cases go through various stages, the Case Management Office sends computer-generated notices to attorneys handling each case, as well as to pro per litigants.
All general jurisdiction judges use the automated order system for the scheduling of their cases. The order gives the following dates or cutoffs:
- Experts Named
- Mediation Month & Year
- Witness List and Exhibits Exchange
- Dispositive Motions and Motions in Limine
- Discovery Cutoff
- Settlement Conference (if applicable)
- Trial Date (if applicable)
Instructions regarding ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution), proposed jury instructions and trial briefs are also in the automated order. The instructions direct the recipients to make objections to the order within 14 days of the date of the order.
